Biographical Information[edit]

Red Barkley was named MVP of the 1941 National Baseball Congress World Series while playing for the semi-pro Champlin Refiners. In 1943, he was with Montreal and also backed up Arky Vaughan on the 1943 Brooklyn Dodgers (Pee Wee Reese was off in the service). The grandfather of Brian Barkley, Red was in the USAAF in World War II. His one year as a minor league manager came in 1947 with the Waco Dons of the Class B Big State League. The team finished 52-101 and in 8th place. He was later a scout for over thirty years.
