Recreation Park (Duluth)

From BR Bullpen

Recreation Park was hastily built in 1891 when the St. Paul, MN entry in the Western League moved to Duluth, MN midseason. The park stood within the block contained by Superior Street and First Street and 28th Avenue West and 29th Avenue West in Duluth's West End neighborhood.

Minneapolis defeated Duluth, 4-1, in the first Western League game played at Recreation Park on July 5, 1891. Attendance exceeded the park's 5,000 capacity, and many others watched from carriages lining the outfield. General admission cost 25 cents while a seat in the grandstand cost 50 cents.

The Western League disbanded the Duluth club on August 20th of that year. Recreation Park was utilized by local baseball and football teams until at least 1894.
