Biographical Information[edit]
Knuckleballer Ray Kirchoff pitched in the minor leagues in 1949, 1950 and 1953. He pitched a no-hitter in sandlot ball in 1948, striking out 24, but hitting 2 batters and walking 1. He was signed by the New York Giants and placed on the St. Cloud Rox roster.
In 1949, Kirchoff was farmed out to the Bristol Twins in spring training, then sent to the Galax Leafs a the cutdown deadline in May. He went 13-4 with 10 complete games between the two clubs, then was 19-6 with a 2.48 ERA in 200 innings for St. Cloud in 1950. After missing 1951 and 1952 due to service during the Korean War, he returned to go 1-0 for the Sioux City Soos in 1953. Overall, he went 33-10 for a .767 winning percentage in his brief career.
