Ray Davis
Ray C. Davis is a co-owner of the Texas Rangers and since the resignation of Nolan Ryan in 2013, as been serving as the principal of the "Rangers Baseball Express", the team's ownership consortium.
Davis made his fortune in the energy industry in Texas, serving as CEO of Energy Transfer Partners and Energy Transfer Equity until his retirement in 2007. He continued to work in the investment field after that. His net worth was estimated by Forbes Magazine in 2013 to be around $2 billion.
In 2010, he joined the group headed by Chuck Greenberg and Ryan that purchased the Rangers from Tom Hicks for $593 million through a bankruptcy proceeding. He and fellow energy mogul Bob Simpson provided the majority of the capital needed for the purchase. At first Greenberg and Ryan were the team principals, with Greenberg being ousted in 2011, and Ryan taking over until his resignation in 2013. Davis took over as team principal, with Simpson being co-chairman, but the two have largely remained in the background since that time, with team President and General Manager Jon Daniels being the main public figure for the franchise.
