Randy Cooper played minor league baseball in 1954 and 1955, suiting up for the Lexington Colts, Miami Beach Flamingos/Greater Miami Flamingos, Greenville Spinners and West Palm Beach Indians. He hit around the Mendoza Line for his career, but he played in pitcher-friendly leagues. In 1955, he had the second-most chances without an error by a Florida State League outfielder.
Per his obituary, he played college football at the West Virginia University Institute of Technology, where he earned Little All-American honors his senior season. He then served in the Korean War from 1951 to 1954. He was inducted into WVU Tech's Hall of Fame in 1961.
