Biographical Information[edit]

Raul Nieves played in the minor leagues and for the Puerto Rico national baseball team.

Nieves was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 23rd round of the 2000 Amateur Draft, and he hit .248/.320/.292 for the Lowell Spinners in his first year. He collected 12 steals with a .246/.301/.287 batting line for the Augusta GreenJackets in 2001, and he hit .254/.310/.291 in 93 games with the Sarasota Red Sox in 2002. Nieves also played 13 games for the Trenton Thunder in '02 season, and he was 9-for-34 there. He then had a .249/.317/.289 batting line for the AA Portland Sea Dogs in 2003, but his batting line fell to .222/.291/.296 in 2004. Nieves struggled again in 2005 as he hit .209/.291/.277 in Portland, and he was 1-for-8 for the AAA Pawtucket Red Sox; he left the Red Sox system after the 2005 season. He also represented Puerto Rico in the 2005 Baseball World Cup. Starting at second base, he batted .258/.303/.323 and fielded .947.
