Biographical Information

Raul Barron was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 30th round of the 2006 amateur draft. The infielder made his pro debut that summer with the Pulaski Blue Jays, hitting .295/.363/.352 with 21 RBI in 51 games before being promoted to the Auburn Doubledays late in the season. With the Lansing Lugnuts in 2007, he started off strong, hitting .301 as of June 26th, but trailed off to a .226 average (.287 OBP, .317 SLG) at season's end in a utility role. Back with Lansing the next summer, he improved to .275/.300/.342 with 32 RBI in 82 games.

He spent the entire 2009 season with the Dunedin Blue Jays, hitting .264/.323/.377 in 65 games. He fell to .254/.306/.352 with Dunedin in 2010, his last year in the US. He then went to Mexico and went 3 for 14 with two walks and five runs for the Tigres de Quintana Roo in 2011. The Tigres made him a pitcher in 2012 and he wound up being a pitcher longer than he had been a position player. He was 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA in 51 games his first year in that role, a solid bullpen contributor. He fell to 2-2, 6.09 in 2013. In '14, he split time between Quintana Roo (6-1, 5.34) and the Acereros de Monclova (3-1, 2 Sv, 3.63). He tied for the most wins of any Mexican League full-time reliever that year.

For the 2015 Acereros, Barron was 3-2 and a 3.06 ERA in 61 games. He was one pitching appearance shy of league leader Oscar Villarreal. Back with Qintana Roo for 2016, he went 8-0 with a 1.77 ERA in 49 games, posting a .84 WHIP for a stellar campaign. He again tied for the most wins of any reliever in the LMB. In his first winter ball campaign, he was 4-2 with a save and a 1.95 ERA for the Naranjeros de Hermosillo. For the Tigtres in 2017, he was 3-1 with 23 saves and a 1.76 ERA. He was 7th in the league in saves, between Tiago Da Silva and Deunte Heath. That winter, he was 2-2 with a 2.23 ERA for Hermosillo.

He was 0-1 with 12 saves and a 3.91 ERA in the spring season in Mexico in 2018 (the league split its year into two seasons in 2018). He was 4th in saves, two behind leader Josh Lueke. He pitched for the Mexican national team in the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games but struggled (5 H, 3 R in 2 IP). In the fall season, he had five saves and a 2.29 ERA for Quintana Roo. He followed with another great winter for Hermosillo (2-1, 1.27 in 23 G). He pitched once for Mexico in the 2019 Pan American Games Qualifier, closing out their lone loss, 12-4 to Nicaragua, but it was enough to remove them from competition for the 2019 Pan American Games. Relieving Esteban Haro in the 9th, he gave up 5 hits and 4 runs (2 earned) in one inning.
