Biographical Information[edit]

Quique Cruz was a long-time amateur star in the Dominican Republic. He played in the Central American and Caribbean Games three times, the Pan American Games twice and the Amateur World Series once. In the 1978 Central American and Caribbean Games, he had a three-homer game. In the 1979 Pan American Games, he hit a homer to beat Team USA and give the Dominicans the Silver Medal. He had the winning hit three times in the Dominicans' six wins and was named the tourney All-Star first baseman. He hit .333 for the tournament with two homers and eight RBI. He was on the Dominican squad that won Gold in the 1982 Central American and Caribbean Games, the only time Cuba did not win in a run of 7 straight Central American and Caribbean Games. He also played in the 1982 Amateur World Series and 1983 Pan American Games.

In Dominican amateur circles, he was on 13 championship teams, won six home run titles and led in RBI seven times. In 2011, he was inducted into the Dominican Sports Hall of Fame, one of three baseball players picked that year (alongside Jose DeLeon and Geronimo Berroa).
