Biographical Information[edit]
Prince Frederick of Wales was the Prince of Wales (i.e. heir to the British throne) who is credited for playing a very early form of baseball that was similar to today's game and is mentioned in various baseball history books. He played the "earliest recorded baseball game" on September 19, 1749. The prince was known for being very involved with sporting activities and played a number of other games. He died in 1751 after being hit in the chest with a cricket ball which caused his lungs to explode.
A number of places are named after him, including the city of Frederick, MD.
