Luis A. Rosario Huertas

Biographical Information[edit]

Prieto Rosario was a star first baseman in Puerto Rico's amateur league, winning MVP in 1994. He hit .307 in 19 seasons, primarily with Vega Alta. He had his brightest moment possibly with the Puerto Rican national team - in the Gold Medal Game of the 2002 Central American and Caribbean Games, he hit a 10th-inning homer off Jorge Cortez with Josue Colon aboard for a 4-2 win. It was Puerto Rico's second baseball Gold in the Central American and Caribbean Games; they had also done it in 1959. He was named to the Puerto Rican Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame in 2016. Interestingly, he was not the only Luis Rosario on the team - there was also outfielder Luis Rosario.
