Biographical Information[edit]
Press Cruthers hit .222 (6-for-27) over two looks with the Philadelphia Athletics at the end of their early 1910s dynasty. He managed the Kenosha Comets in the 1946 AAGPBL.
Cruthers spent at least six seasons in the minors, four of which were with the Memphis Chickasaws.
". . . Press Cruthers, who has been the Chicks' middleman for the past several seasons, is about to leave . . . Press is with the Remington Arms Company, in Chester, Pa., has a good job all week at a neat stipend and gets to play ball on Saturday and Sunday, receiving a part of the gate receipts. This makes Press' pay check a good healthy one, and he may not consent to return to Dixie. - The News Scimitar (Memphis, TN), February 27, 1919 [1]
