Biographical Information[edit]

Pid Purdy played four years in the major leagues and 14 in the minors. His major league batting average was .293 and his minor league average was .328. He also played in the NFL in 1926 and 1927 for the Green Bay Packers.

His most notable major league season was also the one in which he had his most at-bats, 1928. With the 1928 Cincinnati Reds, he hit .309 in 252 at-bats, higher than any other position player on the team, which finished over .500.

Through 2008 he is the last of seven players who came to the majors out of Beloit College. The others all made their major league debuts in 1908 or earlier. Purdy played baseball and football in college.

Purdy managed in the minors in 1936.

Only two major leaguers, through 2019, have been born in Beatrice, NE, and they were both in the majors in 1927-28. The other is Jim Faulkner.
