Biographical Information[edit]
Phil Wisner was one of three local amateurs given a chance to play in the majors on August 30, 1895 by the Washington Senators, "because of the crippled condition of the home team". (Sporting Life, September 7, 1895)
Although his record shows no plate appearances, the box score in Sporting Life shows one at-bat. In addition, the record refers to him playing four innings at shortstop so it's likely he did come to the plate.
The box score misspelled his name as Wesner.
