Biographical Information[edit]

Relief pitcher Phil Wetherell began his professional career in 2011.

He was taken by the New York Yankees in the 8th round of the 2011 amateur draft, a few picks after second baseman Tommy La Stella. He began his pro career with a 2.40 ERA and 12.3 SO/9 IP ratio in 25 games for the Staten Island Yankees, but struggled in 2012 with a 5.97 ERA for the Charleston RiverDogs. Despite posting a 3.06 ERA in 2013 and a 2.88 mark in 2014, the Yankees released him on April 6, 2015. He was later re-signed.
