In 2006 Phil Welch Stadium became home of the St. Joe Blacksnakes of the American Association. No team had called this a minor league home since the St. Joseph Angels, St. Joseph Ponies, and St. Joseph Cardinals of the Western Association played here from 1939 to 1954.

The stadium also hosted the NAIA College World Series from 1962 to 1969 and 1974-1978.
