Biographical Information[edit]

Phil Nastu pitched three seasons for the San Francisco Giants, from 1978 to 1980.

Nastu was born in Bridgeport, CT, attended high school there and went to the University of Bridgeport. Through 2009 he is one of only three major leaguers out of the University of Bridgeport.

He was signed as a free agent in 1976 by the Giants and immediately went 16-4 in the minors in 1977. He spent 1978-1980 split between the Phoenix Giants and the major league team.

After the 1980 season he was traded to the Chicago Cubs. He spent 1981 with the Midland Cubs in their organization and then 1982 with the Charlotte O's in the Baltimore Orioles' organization.

He is mentioned a number of times in the book Bridgeport Baseball, CT. In the 1979 edition of the MacMillan Baseball Encyclopedia, his 1978 stats are mistakenly listed under the name Barry Evans, but without the vital statistics of the real Barry Evans, who had also made his major league debut that year, with the San Diego Padres.
