Biographical Information[edit]

Peter Schöön was a member of the Swedish national team from 1978-1997 and managed the team in the 2003 European Championship and 2005 Baseball World Cup. Schöön had originally played hockey and chose baseball to give him something to do in the summers. He hit .258/.352/.355 with 9 RBI in 9 games in the 1993 European Championship, when Sweden won Bronze. He pitched one game (3 1/3 IP, 4 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 3 R, 2 ER) and fielded .941 as their main center fielder. He tied Anthony Meurant, Olof Lindfors and Antonio Salazar for 8th in the event in RBI. In the 1994 Baseball World Cup, he was 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA and hit .167/.259/.375 with 9 strikeouts in 24 AB as a 1B-P. In the 1995 European Championship, he was 1-1 with a 5.06 ERA on the hill while batting .304/.484/.696 with 7 runs and 10 RBI in 7 games. He finished 10th in the event in slugging.
