Originally known as Meinen Field, the park was renamed in 1992 in honor of longtime Chiefs owner Pete Vonachen. From 1970 to 2002, the park was also home to the Bradley University baseball team. In 2003, the stadium was converted into a 1,700 seat soccer stadium for Bradley and renamed Shea Stadium.
