Biographical Information[edit]
Clarence "Pete" Sims pitched well for Charleston in 1914-15 and came to the majors in September of 1915 for three games. He won a game as a pitcher, and as a batter he went 1-for-1 with a walk.
Pete was one of 14 major leaguers born in Ohio in 1891. He is, however, the only major leaguer (through 2010) born in Crown City, OH, a town in the southeastern part of the state on the Ohio River not far from Charleston, WV.
". . . Clarence Sims, pitching for Charleston, allowed Lexington but one hit in the game of September 9. That one hit resulted from the ball hitting (a) pebble and bouncing over an infielder's head." - Sporting Life, Oct. 31, 1914
