Biographical Information[edit]
Prior to playing pro baseball, pitcher Pete Naktenis attended Duke University on a baseball scholarship and graduated from there with a physics degree. He had cups of coffee in the majors with the 1936 Philadelphia Athletics and the 1939 Cincinnati Reds, going 0-1 in 10 big league appearances.
Naktenis went 8-8 with the Milwaukee Brewers in 1942 and then retired after playing through several seasons of arm injuries. However, he did not stay retired long, as he joined the Hartford Bees in 1943 and went 6-0 with a 1.45 ERA. The next year, when the club became known as the Laurels, he was 18-3 with an Eastern League leading 1.93 ERA. He was 11-5 for the club the next year.
After baseball he founded one company and was president of another. He lived to the age of 93.
