Biographical Information

Pete Meegan was from San Francisco, CA and spent most of his baseball career in and about the San Franciso area. However, he came to the major leagues with the Richmond Virginians in 1884 and the Pittsburgh Alleghenys in 1885. He was also in the minors with the 1884 Reading Actives before he came to the majors. In the San Francisco area he was active from at least 1881 to 1892.

He was the main pitcher for Richmond, starting 22 of the 42 games they played. He was a stronger pitcher for Pittsburgh, putting up a better ERA than either Pud Galvin or Hank O'Day, but Ed Morris had the best ERA and was the #1 pitcher on the squad, which ended up with a 56-55 record.

"Meegan . . . was brought to notice in the old Haverly team, and in the early 80s defeated the Louisville Colonels on the Alameda Grounds. For years he was in the National League, and also in the American Association, playing with Philadelphia and St. Louis. Meegan's most elusive ball was a drop." - from Pete Meegan's obituary in the Sporting Life issue of March 25, 1905 (although he never played in the major league National League nor for Philadelphia or St. Louis unless it was perhaps as a reserve)
