Biographical Information[edit]
Catcher Paul Hoover spent 14 seasons catching professionally, including parts of seven years in the majors with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays (2001-2002), Florida Marlins (2006-2008), and Philadelphia Phillies (2009-2010). In the course of these seven seasons, he appeared in a total of 40 games, and his rookie status was still intact during his final major league season. Hoover made his only Opening Day roster with the 2008 Marlins.
Hoover started his coaching career in 2012 as manager of the GCL Rays. Hoover served as the Tampa Bay Rays minor league catching coordinator from 2013-2018. He moved up to the major league staff in 2019 with the title of Major League Field Coordinator and remained in that position through the 2022 season.
In 2023, he moved over to the Kansas City Royals as bench coach for new manager Matt Quatraro, who had previously been a coach with the Rays. Hoover returned as bench coach in 2024.
