Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Paul Dowd played in the Boston Red Sox system from 1964 to 1970. He began his professional career at 17 years old. In his second campaign, he went 11-12 with nine complete games and a 3.21 ERA in 33 games (29 starts). Though he allowed only 178 hits in 202 innings, he also surrendered 112 walks, hit nine batters and threw 15 wild pitches. His control improved over the course of his career, though he never won more than five games in a succeeding season and he finished with a 4.6 walks-per-nine-innings ratio. He was 22-33 with 20 complete games, 235 walks and 237 strikeouts in 456 career innings.
