Paul Blanchard has been a college coach.
Blanchard played baseball and football in college. He became a coach as a graduate assistant at Minnesota in 1985. He was head coach of Normandale Community College in 1986, going 28-4 and going to the NJCAA World Series. He was assistant coach at Minnesota again in 1987, 1988 and 1990, while pursuing his master's degree. He was head coach of Minnetonka High School in 1991-1992, going 41-10. He then returned to Normandale from 1993-1995, with a 69-33 composite record and one state title.
Blanchard became head coach at Southwest Minnesota State University for the 1997 season. He was 31-13 in 1997, setting a school record for wins, then improved on that with a 33-16 campaign in 1998. He won 31 games again in 2002 and 30 in 2004. In 2009, SMSU made the NCAA Tournament for the first time. He was 379-263-1 through 2010, setting the school career record for wins. Blanchard retired after the 2023 season, winning 591 games in 27 seasons.
Blanchard coached for the USA in the 2003 World Youth Championship.
