Biographical Information[edit]

Pat McCoy pitched 14 games for the Detroit Tigers in 2014, a division-winning team. Pat was six years younger than teammate Miguel Cabrera. He also pitched during 2007-2018 in minor league, foreign and independent ball, primarily as a reliever. Although he came to the majors with Detroit, the bulk of his minor league time was spent with the Washington Nationals organization.

The 2014 Tigers had an unusually high concentration of well-known pitchers, including Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander, David Price, Rick Porcello, Anibal Sanchez, Joe Nathan and others, so it was a real accomplishment for McCoy to get pitching time with the team.

"Don’t look into the stands; you’ve never seen five decks of people. . . " - Justin Verlander's advice to a nervous Pat McCoy before his first major league appearance [1]
