Biographical Information[edit]
"Pat Hynes, the local boy, who showed so well last year, will do the horticultural work (in 'the centre garden')" - from Sporting Life of March 11, 1905
Young Pat Hynes appeared in 63 major league games as an outfielder but also six as a pitcher during the 1903-04 seasons. Born in St. Louis, MO, he played for both the Cardinals and the Browns. He later played in the American Association.
During his years with Vicksburg in 1903 and Minneapolis in 1905 he did some pitching, winning over 60% of his games each year. It was reported in early 1906 that Pat was going to work as a bartender instead of reporting to Milwaukee, but that may just have been a ploy to get a higher salary. He played for Milwaukee in 1906, after playing for Minneapolis in 1905.
Hynes died on his 23rd birthday. Sporting Life reported that he was in an altercation with a bartender, and that the bartender shot and killed him. Hynes was planning to leave the next day for Milwaukee, where he had signed to play another season.
