Biographical Information[edit]
Otis "Rabbit" Lawry played in the majors in 1916-17. He was with the minor league powerhouse Balitmore Orioles for a longer time, from 1917-24, during some of their greatest years. He was the International League batting champ in 1919.
Lawry was at the University of Maine from 1914-16, at the same time as Harland Rowe. He made his major league debut in June 1916 with the Philadelphia Athletics, appearing in 41 games (Rowe also broke in with the Athletics in June 1916). The following season Lawry split his time between the A's and the Orioles.
After his days with Baltimore he played for Jersey City, Toronto and Rochester.
Lawry was the informal interim manager of the 1923 Orioles for a while when Jack Dunn was beset with a family emergency.
A number of sources say that Otis used to call balls and strikes from left field, driving umpires crazy.
