Biographical Information

Oswaldo Morejón has played for over a decade for the Leones de Yucatan.

He debuted in the Mexican League in 1997, when the teenager hit .244/.285/.259 in 74 games. In 1998, he batted .241/.287/.256. He continued to play regularly despite that rough start and hit .252/.331/.308 in 1999. He batted .285/.346/.428 for the 2000 Leones, with 25 doubles and 8 home runs, starting to show some bat.

In 2001, Oswaldo hit .279, followed by .273 in 2002. In 2003, Morejón improved to .311. For Yucatan in 2004, the 25-year-old produced at a .299/.362/.425 rate while fielding .982 at shortstop. In '05, he hit .320/.395/.449 and stole 22 bases in 34 tries while manning second base primarily.

Morejón batted .299/.379/.401 for the 2006 Leones, then followed with a line of .301/.373/.436 in 2007. Oswaldo hit .312/.364/.409 in 2008, his 12th year with the Leones, though he only turned 30 late in the season.

In the 2008 Americas Baseball Cup, the veteran infielder went 1 for 6 with a walk and a run for Mexico, backing up Carlos Valencia at second base. In the 2009 season, Oswaldo hit .311/.404/.415 with 20 stolen bases in 29 attempts after 2 steals in all of 2008. He was put on Mexico's roster for the 2009 Baseball World Cup.

On December 16, 2010, Morejon was involved in an on-field fight with former major leaguer Jeff Salazar during a Mexican Pacific League game. The two began exchanging words after Salazar was hit in the leg on a pick-off attempt, and Morejon knocked out Salazar with one punch in the ensuing brawl, which then degenerated into a bench-clearing brouhaha that led to a number of ejections and suspensions.
