Biographical Information

Pitcher Oscar Zamora was one of only four players born in Cuba to make their debut in the 1970s; the others were Minnie Mendoza, Orlando Gonzalez, and Bobby Ramos. Although born, on the island, he grew up in Miami, FL.

Zamora had a good start to his career as a rookie with the Chicago Cubs in 1974, leading the team in pitching appearances (56) and saves (10). His workload was heavy, however, as he pitched 56 of the team's final 104 games following his call-up from the minors. Zamora started strong again in 1975 but he struggled as the season progressed. He picked up 10 saves but would pitch just 50 games over two more seasons before his major league career was done.

Zamora also pitched for the Miami Amigos of the short-lived Inter-American League in 1979.
