Biographical Information[edit]
Omar Guzmán excelled for the Panamanian national team that won the Silver Medal in the 2017 Central American Games. In his first outing, he relieved Saúl González with a 5-2 deficit in the 8th against El Salvador and struck out six of seven batters he faced while Panama scored five in the top of the 9th to give him the win. He then got the start against Guatemala and allowed two runs (one earned) in six innings (6 H, 1 BB, 2 K) before González closed out the win to clinch a spot in the Gold Medal Game. He tied William Ponce for 8th in ERA in the round-robin (1.13) and was the only pitcher to win multiple games in that phase (former big leaguer Wilton López was the only other hurler with multiple wins in the tournament).
