Born and raised in Utah, infielder Oliver Dunn was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 11th round of the 2019 amateur draft out of the University of Utah. He played in their minor league system from 2019 to 2022, sitting out the 2020 season when the minor leagues were shut down by the Coronavirus pandemic and briefly reaching AAA his last season, which was cut to just 36 games by two separate injuries, and abdominal strain and a strained hamstring. Following that season, he was taken by the Philadelphia Phillies in the minor league portion of the 2022 Rule V Draft.
Dunn played just one season in the Phillies system, hitting .271/.396/.506 in 119 games for the Reading Fightin Phils of the AA Eastern League. he hit 21 homers and drove in 78 runs to earn a spot on the league's All-Star team. He then hit .343 in 19 games in the Arizona Fall League to earn a spot in that circuit's Rising Stars Game. Finally, he was named a Phillies organizational All-Star. On November 14th, he was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers for Hendry Mendez and Robert Moore, two fellow minor leaguers, although he would soon lose that status as he made the Brewers' roster out of spring training in 2024. He started his team's second game of the season against the New York Mets on March 30th at third base, going 1 for 4 in a 7-6 win.
