Oakland Ball Park

From BR Bullpen

Oakland Ball Park in Oakland, CA, was the home of Oakland affiliated baseball from 1913 through 1955, hosted Negro Leagues baseball in at least the 1940s. In 1956, the Oakland Oaks of the Pacific Coast League began playing in an existing ballpark in Vancouver, BC, as the Vancouver Mounties.

The Oakland facility's name is actually somewhat vague; the plaque marking the location reads "Oakland Ball Park", as does at least one aerial photograph labeled as having been taken when it was "new" - but other sources say it was Oakland Baseball Park, Oaks Park, or Emeryville Park. Until the 1920s, the Oaks were commonly owned with the San Francisco Seals and - although OBP was their official home park - they played many of their home games across the Bay.

Attendance dropped after World War II as the ballpark fell into disrepair, leading to their move to Canada. In hindsight, they would soon have been displaced anyway - as were the Seals - when the New York Giants moved to San Francisco before the 1958 season.
