Biographical Information[edit]

O.A. Beltzer, also known as Buck, managed the Grand Island Collegians in 1910, hitting .205 in 105 games as the team's player/manager. He was purchased by the Philadelphia Athletics in 1911 for $300.00, though he did not make the squad. As a result, he joined Guy Green's Nebraska Indians, a barnstorming team.

In 1922 and 1923, he managed the Lincoln Links, leading the squad to a Nebraska State League championship in 1923. He also pitched three games for them.

Prior to playing professionally, he formed a traveling team called the Oxford Indians, which was based in Oxford, NE. He played both baseball and football at the University of Nebraska.

Buck Beltzer Stadium, home of the Nebraska Cornhuskers from the 1940s to 2001, was named in his honor in 1979.

His brother, James Beltzer, was president of the Nebraska State League.
