Biographical Information[edit]

Norris O'Neill played amateur and semi-pro ball in California in the 1880s and 1890s, as a catcher and later second baseman and also serving as a manager. From 1885 to 1888, he had played minor league baseball back on the east coast.

In 1902, he was an umpire in the American Association, then in 1905 was elected president of the Western League, serving until fired at the end of the 1915 season. He then moved to Chicago, IL where he went to work for Chicago White Sox owner Charlie Comiskey, advising him on business matters and even representing him as team spokesman when he was out of town. He managed the team's barnstorming tours in 1913 and 1924. He retired in the early 1930s, not long after Comiskey's death.
