Nicky Vlyminckx

  • Bats Right, Throws Right

Nicky Vlyminckx broke into the First Division at age 16, going 2 for 13 at the plate for the Antwerp Royal Greys and allowing one run in 11 2/3 IP to pick up one win. In 2007, he had a 3-1, 7.52 record and hit .226/.313/.262. He was one of Belgium's top producers in the 2007 European Junior Championship. Playing 1B, he was 7 for 19 with 4 runs, a team-high 6 RBI, 4 walks, 2 doubles and 3 steals in 3 tries. He allowed one run in 1 2/3 IP. After that, his playing time fell for the Greys. He had one at-bat in 2008 and did not play in 2009. Returning in 2010, he was 0 for 13 at the plate and 2-2 with a 5.87 ERA on the hill.

In 2011, Nicky made Belgian's senior national team. He tossed one shutout inning with a strikeout in the 2011 European Championship Qualifiers, completing a combined shutout with Cédric De Smedt and Nicolas Migeot against a weak Latvian national team. Belgium wound up earning a spot in the 2012 European Championship.

His birthdate is somewhat notable in Belgian baseball history because Thomas De Wolf was also born on 12-22-89; De Wolf became the first Belgian-raised player to play in the US minors. One presumes that he might be related to Nicholas Vlyminckx.
