Biographical Information

The brother of Barth Morreale, Nicholas Morreale was drafted in the 46th round of the 2006 amateur draft by the Philadelphia Phillies coming out of high school. He chose to go to college instead of turning pro.

He was mainly a position player in college, but found success on the mound after moving to the Italian Baseball League and joining T&A San Marino in 2014. He went 6 for 22 with two doubles, two walks and six runs in the regular season, playing 1B, the corner outfield and pitcher; he allowed no runs in 3 2/3 IP. In the semifinals, he was 2 for 11 with a double and RBI but gave up 8 runs and 20 baserunners in 10 innings. In the 2014 European Cup's first round, he hit very well as San Marino's starting first baseman and part-time outfielder, going 7 for 14 with a double, steal, walk, hit-by-pitch, three runs and two RBI. He also allowed one run in 7 innings to outduel Owen Ozanich in a win over the Rouen Huskies. In the European Cup finals, he was 1 for 7 with a walk, two runs and four Ks and did not pitch, but Junior Guerra did great work on the hill and many of his teammates hit well as San Marino beat ASD Rimini for the European championship.

Morreale pitched for the Italian national team in the 2014 European Championship, going 1-0 with a 3.68 ERA in three relief appearances, getting the win over Great Britain. He had the second-highest ERA on the strong Silver Medal team, ahead of only Carlos Richetti. He also was 1 for 2 with two walks, a triple and a run as a bench hitter.

Nick did not bat in the 2015 European Cup but pitched well, blanking the host Paris Université Club for six innings on three singles before Yovany D'Amico closed it out.
