Biographical Information

Nick Avila is the cousin of Alex Avila (his high school teammate) and nephew of Al Avila.

Nick was 7-5 with a 5.06 ERA and 18 walks in 83 2/3 IP as a college junior, then improved to 5-1, 3.83 as a senior with just 15 walks in 94 innings. The Detroit Tigers took him in the 37th round of the 2011 amateur draft (they had also chosen him in the 42nd round of the 2009 amateur draft out of junior college). Assigned to the Connecticut Tigers, he started off 3-0 with a 3.92 ERA after 11 games, walking four in 20 2/3 innings.

Avila became a coach with the GCL Tigers in 2015 and GCL Tigers West in 2016.
