Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Nic Kent played three years at the University of Virginia and two years of summer collegiate ball prior to his professional career. His college batting average fell all three seasons, including an 89-point drop in his final year. The Colorado Rockies took him in the 2021 amateur draft in the 11th round after slashing .239/.338/.385 for the Cavaliers. He was assigned to the ACL Rockies and got into 19 contests in which he slashed .218/.307/.255.

In spite of his less-than-stellar pro debut, he leapfrogged the class A California League and spent 2022 in the class A+ Northwest League with the Spokane Indians. He appeared in 54 games, more than half of those at second base. The former college shortstop showed better fielding numbers at second than he did short, but his bat remained anemic, only managing a slash line of .206/.258/.265. His Indians hit .261 on the season - every other team in the league was in the .230s, aside from Tri-City who hit .224.

He returned to the Lilac City in 2023 and began the year as the Indians' everyday second baseman. Through the first two weeks, he was slashing .161/.325/.161.
