Newfoundland and Labrador
Newfoundland and Labrador is the most recently created province of Canada, having joined confederation in 1949 after a referendum. Prior to that time, it was a separate British colony. It is composed of two parts, the island of Newfoundland, off Canada's Atlantic coast, on which the capital St. John's and most of the population is located, and Labrador, a sparsely-populated triangular landmass bordering Quebec on two sides, and the Labrador Sea on the other.
