New York Nine
The New York Nine, or more formally the New York Base Ball Club, played what many historians consider the first game of true baseball in 1846, beating the New York Knickerbockers. The New York Nine was a club that had previously been in existence to play an earlier form of base ball, and one which apparently lasted only through 1847. For a discussion of the New York Base Ball Club, see "Diamonds in the Rough: The Untold History of Baseball".
Some of the New York Nine were apparently former members of the Knickerbocker club.
