Nelson Saldaña went 7-0 for Bóer in 1995 to lead the Nicaraguan amateur league in winning percentage. In the 1997 Intercontinental Cup, he was 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA and 10 K in 10 IP; he tied Francisco Rayo and Jose Quiroz for the team lead in strikeouts. His win came after 1 run in 7 innings of relief against Italy; starter Marvin Zelaya had given up 4 runs in 1 1/3 IP; Nicaragua rallied for a 7-5 win over Roberto Cabalisti.

In the 1999 Pan American Games, the 25-year-old tossed one shutout inning of relief against Guatemala in a Nicaraguan win. In 2001, he tied for the Nicaraguan league lead in wins, even with teammate Jairo Pineda and Elpidio Pinto.
