Biographical Information[edit]
Natividad Martínez caught in the Mexican League and for the Mexican national team. In 1937 (the first season for which LMB stats are available), he was 1 for 17 with two runs for the Cafeteros de Cordoba. He hit .270/.292/.310 with 23 RBI in 35 games for the 1938 Agrario de México. He was with Mexico for the 1938 Central American and Caribbean Games, along with many other LMB pros, even though the event was officially open for only amateurs. Cuba protested, just as they had with a similar 1935 Mexican squad; while Mexico withdrew in '35, they hung around in '38 but did not get a medal.
He fell off from there. In 1939, he was 1 for 5 for the champion Indios de Anáhuac. In 1940, he moved to the Diablos Rojos del México and batted .185/.205/.222 in 27 games. The next year, he was with the Águila de Veracruz and was on another champion winner; their main catcher was legendary Josh Gibson. Natos still got into 20 games, hitting .233/.267/.372. In 1942, he batted .208/.291/.247 for the Industriales de Monterrey. He split '43 between the Diablos Rojos and Algodoneros de Torreon, going 5 for 35 with 3 walks, a triple, a run and two RBI.
He hit .214/.254/.263 with 39 runs and 36 RBI in 135 LMB games, with two homers and one steal.
