The twin brother of Jason Cromer, pitcher Nathan Cromer was selected by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the 10th round of the 1999 amateur draft (one round earlier than his brother was picked by the same club). He played seven seasons in their organization, never playing above the High-A level, going 11-21 with a 5.69 ERA for his career.

Cromer allowed a whopping 69 runs (50 earned) on 72 hits and 33 walks in 39 1/3 IP for the 1999 Princeton Devil Rays, going 0-4. That's a 11.44 ERA. With the 2000 Hudson Valley Renegades, the Iowan improved to 2-7, 5.97 though his 57 runs allowed led the New York-Penn League. He remained with Hudson Valley in 2001 and continued to improve (4-3, 3.99). He led the loop with 94 hits allowed.

Nathan spent 2002 (0-1, 5.23) and 2003 (3-2, 3 Sv, 3.47) with the Charleston River Dogs. He wrapped up his career back in the doldrums with the Bakersfield Blaze (2-3, 6.16, .375 opponent average) and Southwest Michigan Devil Rays (0-1, 5.82).
