My Prison Without Bars

The book My Prison Without Bars can be described as Pete Rose's attempt to tell Bud Selig what he thinks he wants to hear, in order to be re-instated so that he can be elected to the Hall of Fame. It was co-written with Rick Hill and published in 2004. Rose was hoping that the book would help start a push in favor of lifting the ban, but it did not work, as most reviewers found both his account and his apology to be self-serving, while not revealing the extent of his wrong-doing. Indeed, in following years, Rose would confess more serious transgressions than those he admitted to in the book, although he never made the sort of full confession that many were hoping for.
