Murderers' Row

Murderer's Row was the nickname of the top of the batting order of the 1927 New York Yankees, featuring Earle Combs, Tony Lazzeri, Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth and Bob Meusel, all in their prime, batting consecutively. Meusel had the lowest batting average of the five, at .309, while all drove in 100 or more runs, except for lead-off hitter Combs, who scored 137. The team is often considered the greatest in history and the nickname has been extended to other New York Yankees teams of the 1920s.
