Pitcher Moisés Hernández was sent by the Baltimore Orioles to the Atlanta Braves in 2005 as compensation for Leo Mazzone joining the O's as pitching coach. He is the older brother of pitcher Felix Hernández of the Seattle Mariners.
Hernández signed with the Orioles in 2003 at 19. He played the entire year with the Gulf Coast Orioles where he went 2-1 with a 4.15 ERA in 8 games, with 4 starts. He struck out 22 in 21.2 innings and walked 13. He moved up to the Bluefield Orioles in 2004 going 2-5 with a 5.07 ERA and only striking out 6.41 batters per inning. Still he earned a promotion to Abeerden in 2005. There Hernández had a 0-4 record with a 3.08 ERA. He struckout 56 in 52.2 innings and started seven of his eleven games, including one complete game. He pitched for Cardenales de Lara in the winter season of 2005. Hernández had no decisions but had a 3.48 ERA in 10.1 innings.
Hernandez became a pitching coach with the Everett AquaSox in 2016 and 2018 and the AZL Mariners in 2017. In 2019 the Mariners named Hernandez the organization's rehabilitation coach, a role he was slated to retain in the COVID-19 year of 2020.
