Biographical Information[edit]
Modesto Villarreal pitched four seasons in the minors.
Villarreal was 3-1 but with a 11.51 ERA for the 1993 DSL Royals/Rockies. In 1994, he was much sharper at 4-0, 1.95 for the GCL Royals, walking only 9 in 50 2/3 IP. He was 8th in the Gulf Coast League in ERA, between Niuman Loiz and Scott Adair. During 1995, he was 8-2 with a 2.90 ERA for the Spokane Indians. He finished 4th in the Northwest League in wins and 5th in ERA (between Todd Niemeier and Chris McKnight).
In 1996, the right-hander slumped with the Lansing Lugnuts (0-5, 6.11) and Spokane (2-4, 5.74) to end his time in the Kansas City Royals chain. He was on the Panamanian national team that won the 1997 Central American Games.
