Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Modesto Verdura played in the Cuban National League. Pitching for the Azucareros, he led the league in wins (7, tied with Manuel Alarcon), win-loss percentage (.875), ERA (1.58), innings pitched (79 2/3), complete games (6, tied with Alarcon), strikeouts (55) and intentional walks (10) in 1962-1963. He was named the Most Valuable Player, Most Valuable Pitcher and won a Pitching Triple Crown. With Las Villas in 1967-1968, he went 11-0 to lead the league in win-loss percentage.
In the 1963 Pan American Games, he went 2-0 with a 1.00 ERA to help Cuba take gold. He was also on the club's roster for the 1962 Central American and Caribbean Games.
