Biographical Information

Pitcher Mitsutaka Goto played in Nippon Professional Baseball from 2000 to 2005. He spent his first five seasons with the Seibu Lions before wrapping up his career with the Yomiuri Giants.

Goto played for Shin Nittetsu Sakai and Daiwa Bank in the industrial leagues after high school. He was a 7th-round pick of Seibu in the 1999 NPB draft. He began his career with a 1.93 ERA (0-1) in 9 1/3 innings in 2000 and followed that with a 2.49 mark (3-2) in 35 games (six starts) in 2001. In 83 innings, he allowed only 50 hits (a .175 average) and struck out 97 batters. He was 7-2 with a 3.38 ERA in 82 2/3 innings in 2002. He pitched two innings (1 H, 1 K, 1 BB) in the 2002 Japan Series as Seibu was swept by Yomiuri.

In 2003, he was 10-7 with a 3.81 ERA in 23 starts. He tied for 10th in the pacific League in wins, but allowed the most homers (29, two more than Carlos Mirabal).

His ERA in 2004 was 5.97 (his record 3-2) in six starts and he was traded to Yomiuri for Junichi Kawahara. In 2005, his ERA was 9.60 in five games (three starts). He was sold back to Seibu but never made it back to NPB as a player. He then became a Seibu scout for the Kansai area. He signed Hideto Asamura.

Overall, he was 23-16 with a 3.79 ERA in 87 games (51 starts).
