Biographical Information[edit]

Mitch Walding made it briefly to the major leagues with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2018 and 2019, playing a total of 15 games and going 1 for 19 at the plate. The Phillies had drafted him in the 5th round of the 2011 amateur draft, out of a high school in Stockton, CA, and it took him a while to make it to the Show, In his two cups of coffee he played at third base in addition to being used as a pinch-hitter.

In 2022, he was signed by the San Diego Padres as a minor league free agent. The Padres had a different plan for him, asking him to convert to catcher, to take advantage of his strong arm but also to give him more value at a time when benches are limited and positional flexibility is more important than ever.
